Larry G. Holdren, President
With his broad communications experience, Larry is widely recognized as one of the region’s top communications professionals and a go-to resource for organizations facing crisis and other tough situations. The son of a newspaper publisher in rural southwest Kansas, Larry has been involved with some aspect of the communications industry his entire life, first as a newspaper editor and reporter, and now as a communications professional.
He has successfully managed crisis and other communications efforts for large and small organizations in industries that include energy, real estate, healthcare, food and beverage, retail, and sports and entertainment. His extensive and diverse list of clients includes notable companies such as BP, Stetson, Cessna, The Metropolitan Opera, Devon Energy, the National Hockey League, Encana and the Western Governor’s Association.
In addition to being a skilled communications and reputation counselor, he has also developed several award-winning courses that effectively teach all levels of employees in the energy industry how effectively deal with tough questions and situations they face everyday, while preventing delays and legal action. Prior to founding Holdren Strategic Communications in 2014, Larry was an owner at Denver-based Pure Brand Communications, where he helped build one of the region’s leading integrated communications agencies. Previously, he was a principal and director of public relations at Barnhart, the company that acquired his company, Charney Bergner & Holdren Public Relations, and also played senior roles at GBSM, Centura Health and Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Larry is accredited by and has served on the board of directors of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) – Colorado Chapter and has received numerous awards for his work from that and other professional communications societies and organizations. He is a past member of the Executive Committee of PRSA’s exclusive Counselor’s Academy and is a 2006 winner of the Denver Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 award.
Larry is a co-founder and director of the Colorado Energy + Water Institute, an annual invitation-only event that brings together top western energy and water thought leaders.
